EPA Plans to Respond to NAS Biosolids Report.

EPA Assistant Administrators for Water and Research & Development, Tracy Mehan and Paul Gilman sent a guidance letter to all ten regional administrators and state commissioners on 10-31-02 advising them of the Agency’s plan to respond to the National Academy of Sciences' biosolids report issued on 7-2-02. The guidance includes: recommendation that biosolids continued to be managed in full compliance with Part 503 rule, commitment to conduct additional research, biosolids management practices are a local government choice, support for the NBP EMS program, and recommend review of management practices during normal facility inspections and address violations of Part 503 through appropriate enforcement.
